Designing a total brand
experience for Comvita

As one of New Zealand’s most dynamic natural product innovators, Comvita wanted to reconnect consumers with their 50 year brand.

As an innovator in Mānuka, finding new ways to amplify its uniqueness as a medicine central to wellness and vitality, Comvita understood the need to attract and diversify new audiences with a more premium wellness positioning.

Connection actively designed into every Comvita experience in original ways – innovation at every hero touchpoint.

Through brand and business immersion we unlocked the brand’s unique story and powerful science and identified a need to get closer to nature visually and experientially.

The power of nature was revealed through the senses at every touchpoint, from spatial to digital, scent and sound, all carefully curated to envelope you in a new brand world that delivered both education and sensation.

Central to education was an immersive honey tasting experience developed from a strategic session to identify the flavour notes of each honey, guiding the development of film content where we collaborated with a gastrophysicist to ensure the visual and sound choices enhanced the flavour profile for visitors as that tasted and watched.

We built a new strategy and design language that went beyond traditional 2D print and digital into 3 dimensions of multi sensory immersion, guiding the future physical activation of the brand globally.

Comvita’s new brand world included a flagship store + immersive theatre / metaverse website / workplace / mixed reality activation / store in store / and new premium products.

All elements we carefully designed to work harmoniously together, not as one off’s but as assets to be repurposed and used across multiple sites and platforms globally including interiors, soundscapes, film, imagery, signage, packaging, display and much more.

A Wellness lab flagship store

Revealing the magic of nature, a concept store as a multi sensory physical and digital tribute to bees and nature. A highly crafted wellness lab for browsing and selling and a hosted 180 degree immersive theatre for education and brand immersion.

Interactive Metaverse website

A wellness lab website as a 3D virtual store experience that brings nature alive for the user and showcases Comvita’s expertise in understanding nature's intelligence through science, highlighted with a perfect digital replica of the physical wellness lab inside a virtual forest filled with bees.

A sensorial workplace

A space for Comvita’s people where lounge seating, booths and large shared tables replaced traditional rows of desks to encourage co-working, with spaces filled with an abundance of natural plants and honey in lab vessels and even a tree for a much needed authentic connection to nature.

Taking our immersive honey tasting around the world to Dubai world expo and beyond, we embraced Microsoft hololens technology to create a portable immersive experience transforting users to a forest with bees where a virtual beekeeper hosts a sensploration honey tasting.

A multi-sensory store in store at Auckland’s International Airport.

More than just a store, an organic form, finished in warm honey tones breaks with tradition with a large scale hive installation created using 10,000 beeswax dipped fabric cones, made with wax from Comvita’s own hives.

Dynamic motion of honey flowing from the ceiling complimented with scent and sound from the hive engages shoppers. A 4 minute ipad honey tasting experience with spatial audio converts experience to sales.

Premium products with an unforgettable sensory experience  

Comvita’s own beeswax was harvested to create a unique scented candle gift and a premium multi sensory sculpture designed to house single origin honey accompanied by a soundscape composed by bees.
